Is It Really Winter Wonderland?(Reindeer)

Did you know that there is about 30 reindeer herding peoples, and about 3,4 million semi-domesticated reindeer in the world?

Well, its true! The Taimyr herd, which contains Siberian tundra reindeer, is the biggest herd of reindeer in the world, with about 400,000 to 1,000,000 reindeer. In this herd, there have been reindeer that were illegally hunted for meat, fur and antlers. Lots of these reindeer died from disease, the cause, their antlers taken.

Reindeer are herded in Norway, Sweden, Greenland, Finland, Russia, Mongolia, Canada, China, And Alaska.

In herds, humans do not care for the reindeer, as they are treated as cattle that people profit from. The reindeer are caught, and trucked off, and that’s when its not “Winter Wonderland” for reindeer.

The populations of wild reindeer have grown smaller in the Arctic by 56% because of human’s greenhouse gas emissions.

In all, the total population of reindeer has been decreasing because of hunting, disease, and climate change.

Although, now reindeer have adapted to human activity (Industrial development), humans, and machines, increasing human activity will most likely threaten the population. To prevent reindeer population decreasing, we have to prevent poaching, taking their antlers (Causes disease), and human machines, reindeer herds, and industrial development.

Humans have decreased the population of reindeer, as well as giving the reindeer not the best life, Lastly, and most importantly, this text shows a perspective, that I want you to be aware about. I hope that you learned something, and are thinking about these reindeer!

We have to support Reindeer’s right to,

Not be poached, taken to a slaughter house, or have their environment destroyed because of humans.

I’m glad you added not to have their environment destroyed. We have to protect the arctic areas where they live! Great job!
